What is the IELST test like?

IELTS or International English Language Testing System is an English language test initiated by three international scale education organizations namely Cambridge English Language Assessment, British Council and IDP: IELTS Australia.

This test has been held since 1989. The aim is to find out the English proficiency of someone who is planning to go to school, work, or settle abroad.
Since it was first held to date, the results of the IELTS test have been recognized by more than 10 thousand , including companies, universities, and various other international organizations. So, you could say the IELTS test is a mandatory test for those who want to stay long abroad.

Two Types of IELTS Tests

The IELTS test is divided into two categories namely general training and academic. General training is needed for those who want to move to another country, whether for work, marriage or living in another country. Whereas academic is intended for those who plan to study abroad.

Both of these test categories apply four more types of tests consisting of reading (listening), listening (listening), writing (writing), and speaking (speaking). Each of them has a score that must be met in accordance with the provisions of the university or company of destination abroad. Please note, each university and company has their own assessment standards.

IELTS scores start from 0-9. Usually the score that must be collected by scholarship hunters abroad is 6.5-7.5. That is, in all four tests, you must at least collect a grade of 7 if you are eager to pass the IELTS test. If you get a score below the standard determined by your destination university or company, it means you have to repeat the four tests from the beginning. Yes, from the beginning for the four IELTS tests!

Therefore, so that you do not repeat the four IELTS tests several times, it is a good idea to prepare yourself in advance. Please note, this IELTS test takes approximately 3 hours, with each test duration as follows:

1. Listening for 30 minutes.
2. Reading for 60 minutes.
3. Speaking for 15 minutes.
4. Writing for 60 minutes.

Specifically for the listening test, questions that were played to the test takers were questions with various English accents such as British / English, Australian and American. In this test there are no repetitions of questions, you know! So, you have to really focus on listening to the recorded question.
